There are different types of treatments used to treat skin conditions among which medications are the most common. Topical and ***** drugs are amongst the most commonly prescribed treatments for treating skin conditions. Some common topical medicines for skin conditions are as follows:
Antibacterials: These medicines are often used to treat or prevent infection. Some examples are mupirocin or clindamycin.
Anthralin: Although it is not often used as it may cause irritation and stains, it helps reduce inflammation and can be useful in helping treat psoriasis.
Antifungal Agents: Clotrimazole (Lotrimin), terbinafine (Lamisil AT), and ketoconazole (Nizoral) are a few examples of common topical antifungal medications used to treat skin conditions such as ringworm and athlete's foot.
Benzoyl Peroxide: Creams, washes, gels, and foams containing benzoyl peroxide are mainly used to treat acne. There are many dermatology pharmaceutical companies that produce these medicines.
Coal Tar: This topical treatment can be bought with and without a prescription. It’s strengths range from 0.5% to 5%. It is used to treat conditions including seborrheic dermatitis (usually in shampoos) or psoriasis. Currently, coal tar is rarely used because it can be slow and can cause severe staining of clothing and bedding when applied.
Corticosteroids: They are used to treat skin conditions including eczema. Corticosteroids come in various forms including foams, ointments, lotions, and creams.
Non-Steroidal Ointment: Ointments such as crisaborole (Eucrisa), tacrolimus (Protopic) and cream pimecrolimus (Elidel) are also prescribed for eczema and atopic dermatitis.
Retinoids: These medications (such as Differin, Retin-A, and Tazorac) are foams, gels, lotions, or creams derived from vitamin A and are useful in treating conditions like acne and others.
Salicylic Acid: This drug is sold in lotions, soaps, gels, washes, shampoos, and patches. It is the active ingredient in several skin care products that treat conditions like acne and warts.

Immunosuppressants: Immunosuppressants, such as methotrexate (Trexall) and azathioprine (Imuran), can be used to treat conditions along with severe cases of psoriasis and eczema.
Biologics: These recent therapies are the latest methods being used to treat psoriasis and other conditions. Some examples of biologics include adalimumab (Humira), adalimumab-atto (Amjevita), etanercept (Enbrel), a biosimilar to Humira, ixekizumab (Taltz), etanercept-szzs (Erelzi), a biosimilar to Enbrel, infliximab (Remicade), ustekinumab (Stelara), secukinumab (Cosentyx), risankizumab (Skyrizi), brodalumab (Siliq), guselkumab (Tremfya), and tildrakizumab (Ilumya).
Enzyme Inhibitors: Enzyme inhibitors such as apremilast (Otezla) shuts down an enzyme in the immune system in order to fight inflammation. Eucrisa ointment is an enzyme inhibitor which is FDA approved for mild to moderate atopic dermatitis or eczema. Look for pharmaceutical contract manufacturing companies who produce these medicines.
Retinoids: Acitretin (Soriatane) is mainly used to treat all types of severe psoriasis. It reduces skin cell growth. The treatment is known to cause severe birth defects and should not be used if you are planning to become pregnant, are pregnant or breastfeeding.
