For people who don't or cannot eat meat and fish, flax seeds or their other forms such asprovide sufficient supply of Omega-3 fatty acids to the body. Flax seeds are a rich source of ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) which is a mostly plant-based omega-3 fatty acids. ALA is one of the two important fatty acids that can only be obtained from the food you eat, as your body doesn't produce them.
They contain approximately 800 times more lignan than other plant foods. Lignans are plant compounds that have estrogen and antioxidant properties that help in reducing the risk of cancer and also improve the health condition.
One tablespoon of flax seeds has 3 grams of fiber which is the recommended daily intake (8-12%) for men and women. Further, they contain two types of fiber which are soluble and insoluble, and they are between 20-40% and 60-80% respectively.
